Sue FORBES - Aquatic Artisana

My art brings calm and balance into my real world which is becoming more and more preoccupied with higher and higher speed and exploding technology.

The root of my inspiration is my fascination with the underwater world - the mysterious and exotic tropical coral reefs’ electrifying colours, teeming with schools of fish, and the natural beauty of North America’s shorelines and river bottoms. I suppose I never lost that wonder of a 3 year old beside a mud puddle. I have always been impassioned by what I see in the shallows...minnows darting, fish hiding between the rocks and grasses and driftwood shapes sculpted from fallen trees.

I am constantly delighted when people snorkel with me through my imagination, noticing what I strive to create...the illusion of fish in motion...the elements of surprise...the whimsy - and always the eye-catching realities of aquatic life.

Each fish is carved and detailed from recycled wood. Many of my fish are contoured to swim around and through their natural spaces, plants, rocks and reefs. Other elements used in the assembly of my fish are: stained glass, acrylic plants chosen for authentic character, pebbles, driftwood and shells. As I combine the natural elements of these resources - I hope my fish out of water bring a lively yet mesmerizing felling to a special place in your imagination or decor.
