Kathleen ATKINSON-HINDLE - BlackSmith/Jewelry

Kathleen is an Artist Blacksmith and Jeweller living and working in Haliburton.

Kathleen endeavors to create pieces with dramatic impact. Her pieces are hand fabricated functional art with raw, yet inherently elegant aesthetic. She delights in marrying the cold immovable nature of metal with the soft delicate perception of iconic feminine attire. Uniting new materials and found objects she loves incorporating relics of the forgotten, the unused and once loved, reviving them into something of beauty once more. These vestiges are evidence of human kind's progressive nature and will either find their way directly into her work or simply serve as a rough point of departure.

After attending Concordia University in Montreal, Kathleen chose to pursue metal working at The Haliburton School of the Arts and continued on at The Penland School of Craft in North Carolina. Recently Kathleen has been the recipient of public commissions for the Royal Ontario Museum, Kensington Market and the The Childrens Aid Society, doing a series of bike racks in the city of Toronto. Many of Kathleen's pieces can be seen in private collections in Canada, U.S. and Holland.

Kathleen has TA'd at the Haliburton School of the Arts and has been an instructor at The Art Hive as well as the Ottawa Board of Education.
