Catherine COOKE - Jeweller

Catherine Cooke is a mixed media and jewellery artist. Her studio is located on Mountain Lake near Minden Ontario. Catherine first began to explore her creativity with watercolour painting over twenty years ago. She advanced her skills by taking advantage of courses offered at the Haliburton School of the Arts and began to explore soft pastels and stained glass. Catherine is also a runner and has complete nine marathons including Boston. After completing the Chicago marathon in 1999, her mother gave her a beaded bookmark to mark the occasion. She decided to create bookmarks of her own and once she entered her first bead shop in Toronto she was hooked. Since that time Catherine has taken numerous jewellery making courses throughout the United States and in Italy, many sponsored by Swarovski crystal. These have included such diverse subjects as polymer clay, metal clay, resin, metal working, wire working, bead weaving, etching glass and copper, bead embroidery, glass fusing and photographic image transfer. Next on her agenda is the exploration of concrete, copper clay and faux bone. When she is not creating jewellery, Catherine enjoys cross-country skiing, kayaking, yoga, golf, hiking and spending time with her husband Kevin and her dog Bruno.
