O’NEIL, CHARLES

Charles O’Neil is mainly a self taught artist who resides in the Haliburton Highlands. Charles was born in Toronto and moved to Haliburton in 1963. Acceptance of his work has spread across the country and his paintings are now held in many private and corporate collections throughout the world.

I have the great fortune to live and work in the heart of the Haliburton Highlands, home of the Haliburton School of The Arts. My sculptural work is done with a variety of wires. I have developed a technique of knotting and binding wires into the creation I envision, whether that is oversized creatures for the garden or delicate human figures for the home or office. The finishing process is constantly evolving and may include exotic materials such as imported glass beads, and coloured enamelled copper wire. My work is designed to invoke a feeling of recognition from the viewer, a little humour, and perhaps a smile.

Charles’ watercolours have been accepted in numerous juried shows and have won awards. An interest in people and their everyday life influences many of Charles’ paintings. Scenes indicative of Haliburton County and family travels are favourite subject matter.
