FORESTER, Lillian – Potter

After taking a six-week course at a local high school in the early 1970’s, Lillian was hooked on clay. This love affair continues today. She is essentially a self-taught potter, but has attended numerous workshops and conferences led by outstanding Canadian, American and International ceramic artists.

Today, she works mainly in porcelain clay. Her focus is on making delicate carved or pierced pieces. She attempts to make pieces that appear light, with soft coloured glazes. For a change of pace, she also loves the challenge of firing work in a Raku Kiln, producing dramatic pieces.

Her involvement with clay has given her the opportunity to serve as President of the Board of Directors at the Burlington Art Centre for a period of two years. She was also on the Executive of the Burlington Potters Guild. She served as President of FUSION: The Ontario Clay and Glass Association based in Toronto for the past several years. She also served ten years as Chair of Sale/Exhibitions for the Kawartha Potters Guild in Peterborough as well as Program Chair for the Guild for eight years. She has won numerous awards and was recently presented with the John Mather Life Time Achievement Award from the Ontario Craft Council as well as a Life Time Achievement Award from the Kawartha Potters Guild.

She shares her home on Sandy Lake in the Kawarthas with George and their two Pomeranians.
