Jamie MACLEAN – Painter
I am a 64 year old late starter, only becoming passionate about my art in late 2004. Surprisingly, this zeal was kick-started during a seminar on how to operate a consulting business. During the self-evaluation sessions we were asked when we were going to embrace the challenge of our individual dreams – “if not now, when?” –
Although I have taken workshops both in Algonquin and in the Canadian Rockies, I am primarily self-taught.
My objective is to capture the emotion and dynamics of nature then to convey that enjoyment and awe to the viewer. My favorite subjects are autumn and the wind, there is something invigorating, alive and dynamic about that element. I want the viewer to look – relate and then look again. My style is to emulate the ruggedness of the outdoors better placing the viewer in the picture. I use enough detail for the viewer to wander through the painting, always finding something, but leave enough for the viewer’s imagination to fill in the gaps.
I work in a few major themes – autumn, water, cottage country, paths and trails and most recently works on metal.
